She got the call this morning
You can see it on her face
In her jaded eyes
As her face fell in her hands
She cried

You promised
You'd never leave my side
You'd always be there
You'd said you'd fight for me
But you lied
You left, you're gone
Were taken away
Without a chance to say goodbye
So tell me now
What am I suppose to do
With a broken promise

She watched, thankful
As people lined the streets
Their hearts filled with Pride
Flags flew in the wind
In memory of him

As a long black car drove slowly by
The people bowed their heads
Tears running down her face
She cried

You promised
You'd never leave my side
You'd always be there
You'd said you'd fight for me
But you lied
You left, you're gone
Were taken away
Without a chance to say goodbye
So tell me now
What am I suppose to do
With a broken promise

Late that night
Pictures of him
Surrounded her
In their room

A folded up flag
Lay clutched in her hands
As she lay in bed
Thinking of him
She swore she heard his voice say

I promised
I'd never leave your side
Girl, I'll always be here
Don't forget me
Won't you promise?
I left, but I'm not gone
I was taken away
Without a chance to say
I love you babe
So please
Do something
Don't forget me
Won't you promise?

Lines of stone sit side by side
As she stopped by one
Placed flowers on the grave
And with a smile she cried

You promised
You'd never leave my side
You'd always be there
You'd said you'd fight for me
You didn't lie
You left, but aren't gone
Were taken away
Without a chance to say goodbye
But I'll tell you now
What I'm gonna do
I won't forget you
I promise
